Abor Senior High School has officially marked its 60th Anniversary with a grand Durbar, drawing top political leaders, traditional authorities, alumni and hundreds of students to Abor for a landmark celebration. The event brought together generations of “Great Aborsco” old students, education stakeholders and community members in a powerful show of unity, pride and gratitude for six decades of academic excellence and national impact. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as the school community gathered to honour its legacy and reaffirm its commitment to shaping future leaders.
Held under the theme, “60 Years of an Impactful Journey: Providing Transformative Secondary Education Through Indigenous Values and 21st Century Skills,” the celebration brought together alumni, students, traditional authorities, government officials and the wider Abor community to honour six decades of excellence.
The colourful Durbar was held under the distinguished chairmanship of Torgbui Tengey Dzokoto Gligui VII, whose presence added traditional authority and cultural significance to the occasion.

Among the high-profile dignitaries present was a proud “Great Aborsco” alumnus, Bernard Ahiafor, First Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Akatsi South. His presence and address served as a powerful reminder of the heights ABORSCO students can attain. He urged current students to remain disciplined and focused, stressing that the foundation built within the walls of ABORSCO can shape national leaders.
Also in attendance was John Dumelo, Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, representing the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
The event further attracted key political and regional figures including James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister; Dzidzorli Gakpey, Member of Parliament for Keta; and Wisdom Bondzie Seade, Municipal Chief Executive for Keta.

From inspiring speeches to vibrant cultural displays showcasing the rich heritage of the Volta Region, the Durbar was a true reflection of unity, pride and the enduring spirit of the school. Students entertained guests with poetry recitals, choreography and traditional performances that highlighted both indigenous identity and modern creativity.
Founded in 1966, Abor Senior High School has grown into one of the respected second-cycle institutions in the Volta Region, producing professionals and leaders who continue to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development. The school’s motto, “Arise and Shine,” remains a guiding light for generations of learners.
Together with the Abor Senior High School Old Students Association (ASSOSA), staff, students, chiefs and the people of Abor, the institution is not only celebrating its legacy but also laying a solid foundation for the next 60 years of impact.
