Ghana’s U-15 girls’ team, the Black Damsels, have been crowned champions of the CAF African Schools Football Championship after edging past Burkina Faso in a tense final that ended in a 10-9 penalty shootout triumph.
The fiercely contested clash saw both sides display discipline, resilience, and tactical maturity beyond their years, with neither team able to find the decisive goal during regulation time. The deadlock forced the game into penalties, where nerves of steel ultimately separated the two sides.
Ghana held their composure in the shootout, converting crucial kicks under pressure while their goalkeeper delivered when it mattered most, sealing a historic victory for the Black Damsels.
The triumph marks a significant milestone for youth football development in Ghana, reinforcing the country’s growing strength in women’s football at the grassroots level. It also highlights the success of initiatives backed by the Confederation of African Football aimed at nurturing young talent across the continent.
For Burkina Faso, it was a heartbreaking end to an impressive campaign, having pushed the eventual champions to the very limit in a final that could have gone either way.
The Black Damsels’ victory not only brings pride to Ghana but also signals a bright future for the next generation of female football stars poised to rise through the ranks.
