The Member of Parliament for Klottey-Korle, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, has highlighted the urgent need for affordable food services within major corporate and institutional premises across Ghana.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, the lawmaker noted that many workers in large establishments struggle to find reasonably priced meals during working hours. According to her, the absence of structured and affordable food options within workplaces often forces employees to depend on street vendors or search outside their offices for meals.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings explained that when food services are deliberately incorporated into the design of institutions and priced reasonably, it helps reduce the pressure that pushes vendors and workers into unauthorized spaces around office environments.

She pointed out that large workplaces such as hospitals, banks, ministries, and other major private-sector establishments host thousands of workers daily, yet many of these institutions lack accessible and affordable food facilities for staff and visitors.

To address the challenge, the Klottey-Korle MP proposed that key regulatory bodies work together to introduce clear guidelines that will make food service facilities a standard feature in large developments.

Dr. Agyeman-Rawlings suggested that planning approvals for major developments should encourage or require the inclusion of affordable cafeterias or food courts within institutional premises.

According to her, such a move would not only improve access to meals for workers but also promote a more organized and hygienic food service environment within large workplaces.
She believes the proposal, if implemented, could ease the daily burden many employees face in finding affordable food while at work and contribute to a more efficient and comfortable working environment across the country.
