The Aflao Market Project, which is being financed through a recently secured US$30 million Chinese grant, is set to be one of the most ambitious market infrastructure developments in the Volta Region. Beyond serving as a trading hub, the market complex is expected to include modern facilities such as schools, administrative offices, a fire station, clinic, warehouses, transport terminals, pharmacies, abattoirs, and recreational centres—making it a multi-purpose economic and social centre for the region.
Hon. Ablakwa expressed his profound appreciation to all stakeholders for their commitment and collaboration, particularly Togbui Adzongaga Amenya Fiti V, Paramount Chief of the Aflao Traditional Area; Hon. Dzifa Gomashie, MP for Ketu South and Minister for Tourism, Arts and Creative Arts; Hon. James Gunu, Volta Regional Minister; H.E. Tong Defa, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana; and Hon. Nicholas Kwabla Worlachie, Ketu South MCE. He also commended the architects and technical partners for their dedication to ensuring a world-class project design.
The Minister noted that the team spirit and shared vision demonstrated by all parties reflect a collective desire to enhance Aflao’s development and boost regional trade.
He further revealed that President John Dramani Mahama is expected to cut the sod soon to officially commence construction, following the completion of these critical preparatory processes.
“This project is not just about building a market; it’s about transforming livelihoods, strengthening cross-border trade, and positioning Aflao as a major commercial destination in Ghana,” Hon. Ablakwa emphasized.
The Aflao Market Project stands as a symbol of renewed commitment to regional development and international partnership, marking a new chapter in Ghana-China cooperation and President Mahama’s broader vision of inclusive economic growth.
