Ghana Shine Bright in CAF African Schools Football Championship Opene

Ghana's U-15 boys and girls teams kicked off their 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship campaigns in impressive fashion, securing early victories that signal their strong intentions in this year’s tournament.

At the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, the boys’ team delivered a commanding performance against Uganda in their Group A opener. Two brilliantly taken goals by the promising John Andor proved decisive, as Ghana emerged 2-0 winners. The result sees them rise to the top of their group, setting a positive tone for the matches ahead.

Speaking after the game, head coach Daniel Mensah praised his side’s composure and determination. “The boys showed real discipline out there. John was fantastic, but this was a team effort. We're taking it one match at a time,” he said.

The boys will next face a stern test against South Africa on Thursday, before rounding off their group stage campaign with a crucial clash against Algeria. With momentum firmly on their side, hopes are high that they can maintain their winning run and progress to the knockout stages.

Meanwhile, the girls’ U-15 team also got off to a flying start, narrowly edging Morocco 1-0 in a tense and tightly contested affair. The decisive moment came in the second half when Jennifer Awuku latched onto a loose ball in the box and coolly slotted it past the Moroccan goalkeeper. Her goal proved to be the difference, ensuring Ghana walked away with all three points.

“I’m proud of the girls. It wasn’t an easy game, but they showed resilience and heart,” said coach Evelyn Nyarko. “Jennifer took her chance well, and our defence stayed strong till the final whistle.”

Ghana’s girls will continue their campaign on Thursday with back-to-back fixtures against Malawi and Benin. With qualification to the semi-finals within reach, the team remains focused and hungry for more success.

As the championship unfolds, both Ghanaian sides are not just playing for glory, but for pride, unity, and the chance to inspire the next generation of footballers.
