Renowned Ghanaian musician Woelin Jonathan Segbefia, popularly known as Jah Phinga, has made an impassioned plea to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, calling for the urgent construction of footbridges along the Accra-Tema Motorway.

Taking to social media, the award-winning artiste expressed deep concern over the safety of pedestrians who cross the motorway daily. In his heartfelt message, Jah Phinga warned of the looming danger if immediate action is not taken, highlighting the potential loss of lives.

"Dear Mr President, I want to plead with you in the name of God for an immediate construction of a footbridge at these bus stops on the Tema motorway. I sense danger in the near future if care is not taken. Lives will be lost, or even if we haven't lost some already. It doesn't have to be expensive, but it should be very accessible for the ordinary Ghanaian crossing the motorway on a daily basis. God bless you for all the good work you're doing for Mother Ghana," he wrote.
The musician specifically mentioned high-risk areas such as:
  • Ashaiman China Mall Bus Stop
  • Ashaiman Underbridge Bus Stop
  • Mannet Bus Stop
  • Tetteh Quashie Bus Stop (Accra Mall)
Jah Phinga's plea resonates with many Ghanaians who have long called for better pedestrian infrastructure on the motorway, a major highway that sees thousands of commuters daily. The lack of safe crossings has led to numerous accidents, some of them fatal, as pedestrians attempt to navigate the busy road.
His call to action has sparked discussions online, with many Ghanaians echoing his concerns and urging authorities to prioritise pedestrian safety.

While former President John Mahama has yet to respond publicly, Jah Phinga’s message serves as a reminder of the urgent need for infrastructural development that puts citizens’ safety first.

As road accidents continue to claim lives across the country, the musician’s advocacy underscores the power of public figures using their platforms to drive change. The question now remains: will the authorities heed the call?
