Newcastle United have issued a strong but measured response to Alexander Isak’s explosive social media statement, which declared that “trust is lost” between him and the club.

In an official statement released late on Tuesday night, the Magpies expressed disappointment at the striker’s public outburst but insisted that the 25-year-old remains very much under contract and is not for sale under the current circumstances.
“We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening. We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer,” the club wrote.
The tone of the statement was firm, yet respectful. Newcastle reiterated that while they understand players have their wishes and are always open to listening, the ultimate responsibility lies in protecting the club, its team and its supporters. The board stressed that no conditions have been met to justify a sale of their star forward this transfer window.
“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met.”
In a statement that sought to balance firmness with a family ethos, the Magpies concluded by assuring that Isak remains a valued member of the club, adding that he will be welcomed back with open arms once he is ready to rejoin his teammates.

The backdrop to this is the ongoing transfer saga linking Isak to Liverpool. Earlier in the evening, the Swedish striker made public his frustrations, citing broken promises and making it clear he wants to leave. Liverpool, who have already seen a £110 million bid rejected, are reportedly preparing another offer close to £130 million — a potential British transfer record.

For Newcastle, this response is about sending a message: they will not be bullied into a sale and are determined to uphold the club’s pride and ambition. For Isak, however, the lines have already been drawn, and the tension between player and club is now plain for all to see.

This saga is far from over — and with Liverpool looming as Newcastle’s next opponents, the drama could take yet another twist.
