Black Stars Captain Jordan Ayew |
Ghana captain Jordan Ayew has called on Ghanaians to remain patient with the Black Stars as the team navigates a difficult period.
The four-time African champions have faced tough times in recent years, suffering early exits in consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments—first in Cameroon and then in Ivory Coast. Their struggles continued in 2024, managing only two wins in 10 matches. The situation worsened when Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON, deepening concerns about the team’s form.
Speaking to Joy Sports ahead of Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, Ayew acknowledged the team’s challenges but emphasized that rebuilding takes time.
“International football goes through different phases, and right now, we are in a transition. The head coach [Otto Addo] has introduced new ideas, and it will take time for everything to fall into place,” the Leicester City striker stated.
He further compared Ghana’s situation to Manchester City’s struggles this season, noting that even top teams go through rebuilding periods.
“It’s the end of an era for them, and they also need time to get back to their best. I believe we must be patient because we have the right players to turn things around,” Ayew added.
The Black Stars will take on Chad tonight at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Morocco to face Madagascar on Monday.
